Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure my kitchen?

Dreamcatcher Kitchens will email you a detailed set of instructions, an example of a "measure sheet" and be there for you if you need help.  If you are building or doing a major remodel, you can send  the plans you have, complete with all measurements and notations instead.

How can you design my kitchen with out being in my house?

With proper communication we will develop the plans and specifications for your new kitchen.  You are my eyes and measurement provider, so tell me as much as possible.  Digital pics are worth more than a thousand words.

What is the main difference between factory made cabinets?

Stock cabinetry is made in advance and is built to inventory. Some size, color and style limitations exist due the space available and to the cost of inventorying so many cabinets. These are usually basic quality and have some size limitations. Factory made to standard sizes.

Semi-custom cabinetry is made to order and will allow some size changes and the combinimg of cabinetry. There are more styles and colors available. Because they are all made at the same time there is better color consistency and you have a much greater selection of materials. Factory made to standard sizes but allow some modifications.

Custom cabinetry is made to order and has most selection of woods, finishes and styles. Usually more moldings and accessories are available. The sizing of cabinets is up to the designer and within the limits of practicality, almost anything goes, "they are usually as nice inside as the outside".

Each manufacturer has their own set of specifications as to the construction method, materials and styles. The finish is extremely important as this is the part of the cabinet you will see and touch.

My local cabinet maker says his cabinets are better, is this true?

Possibly, there are many fine cabinet craftsmen out there.  The area of concern is his level of expetise and how he builds his cabinetry. Go visit some of his projects or have Dreamcatccher Kitchens frovide the specifications.  The most consistent complaint I have heard is "the finish didn't last".  Most high quality factory finishes are "catalyzed varnish" which is varnish with a catalyst added to enable the finish to cure quickly and much harder than regular varnish.  Remember, lacquer and water don't work well together and there is a lot of water in the kitchen.
